It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our loving mother, Katie McNeil, 96, of Reserve Mines. Katie passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013 at the Glace Bay Hospital.
Born in Glace Bay, Katie was the daughter of the late James and Christina (MacInnis) McBride.
Katie loved to spend time with family and friends. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her great joy. She was an avid bingo player and enjoyed playing cards. Katie loved to bake and her family enjoyed her date squares and baking powder biscuits.
Katie will be sadly missed by her loving children, Marilyn (Pat) Murphy, Beaver Bank, N.S., Francis (Mikie), Reserve Mines, Gerald (Sandra), Westmount; nine cherished grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Katie was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Besides her parents, Katie was predeceased by her husband, Daniel S., son, Daniel S., Jr., sisters, Jessie, Tina, Mary, Millie, Theresa, brothers, Johnnie and Jimmie.
Visitation for Katie will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, March 1, 2013, in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013, in the funeral home chapel with Fr. Leo Boone officiating. Interment will be held at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to a niece, Mary for all her visits, caring ways and being there for Katie and to those who visited her at the hospital. Also, thank you to Dr. Ley for all of his kindness and consideration over the years, to Dr. McNeil, staff and patients of 3rd Floor, Glace Bay Hospital.
