Robert John Alexander Johnston
Date de décès : 25 février 2013
(April 30, 1959-February 25, 2013)
“I fought a courageous fight and I had a wonderful life!” Ever the bohemian, Rob was an accomplished photographer (Bachelor of Applied Arts from Ryerson University) with works displayed widely, including the National Gallery and the Confederation Building. He could see the essence of people and this gift is obvious through his art. His love of learning continued throughout his life, becoming an expert on all things medieval, the Newfoundland Regiment and war history as well as his Scottish heritage. This culminated in the earning of his Master of Business Administration Degree in 2012, where he made the Dean’s List. Judi Kelland, his wife and constant companion, will always hold him dearly in her heart. Also missing Rob are his parents, John and Betty Johnston; his sisters Jeannie Howse, Susan Rossanos (John) and brother John; his aunts Peggy Lewis (and family) and Jean (Andre) Clermont; and his uncle Gordon (Jean) Bursey. Ever the Crazy Uncle Rob, he will always watch over Gabriel, Alexandra, Pascale, Daniel and Darcy (Marilyn and Ed Buckingham). He will continue to be respected and loved by his adult step-daughters; Athenia, Shauna and Jillian; and grandson, Kieran. A great friend to many, and you know who you are, Rob was thankful for your support and friendship… you made the difference to his “quality of life”! Please join the visitation at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Sunday, March 3 from 1-4 and 7-9 p.m. A celebration of his life will be held on Monday, March 4 at 1:00 p.m. from Gower Street United Church (bring a candle), followed by interment in Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Rob would then like to buy you all a beer at his Scottish Wake at The Ship, Duckworth Street, from 4 – 6 pm. In the future, when you want to feel close to Rob, go for a walk and see the wedding celebration oak tree being planted at Bowring Park or the memorial bench that will be placed at the MUN Botanical Garden. Rob asked that in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Health Care Foundation, for the donation of a wheelchair for 5th floor Neurosurgery where Rob and Judi had lots of adventures in a wheelchair with one footrest (thanks to all the marvelous medical staff that walked this path with us), the Community Food Sharing Association or the charity of your choice.
