ROY STARRAK

Roy J. (Jim) Starrak, age 84, of Coleman, died Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at Coleman County Medical Center. Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 2, in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Rough Creek Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home. Jim was born November 15, 1928 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada, a son of William Bonnar Starrak and Mabel Kettlewell Starrak. He grew up in Moose Jaw and attended school there. He attended Colorado College in Colorado Springs, Colorado on a hockey scholarship and earned a two year consensus All-American hockey player in 1949 and 1950. He was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. Jim became a naturalized American citizen in the 1970's. Following college, he worked for oil companies as a geologist and lived in many places. He retired after 30 years from Getty Oil Company as Senior Vice President of Production. He lived in Midland for a number of years and moved to Coleman County in 2005. On November 21, 2005 he married Jolene Meek Trolinder in Coleman, Texas. He was a member of Novice Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Jolene Starrak of Coleman; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jim Starrak and wife Mary of Pleasanton and Ward Starrak and wife Kenna of Victoria; one step-daughter and husband, Debra and Wayne Christa of Novice; six grandchildren: Bonnie and Jayme Starrak, Dustin, Noah and Chad Starrak, Lela Christa. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. Memorials may be made to the donor's charity of choice.
