HILL, Robert “Bob”: The family of Bob Hill, Swift Current, wish to announce his peaceful passing on Monday February 25, 2013 after a short and courageous battle with cancer. Bob was born August 6, 1938 on the family farm near Sonningdale, SK. He attended one year at Asgard School and when the family moved to town he completed his elementary and secondary education at Sonningdale. Bob was a member of the local 4H and one year had the Reserve Grand Champion Steer at the North Battleford show. He started playing ball with the Sonningdale men’s team in 1954. One of Bob’s early jobs was helping his father operate the light plant for the town of Sonningdale. In 1956 Bob moved to Saskatoon and worked for BA Oil before starting his career with Saskatchewan Power in 1958. Bob worked in Maple Creek, Weyburn, Moose Jaw, Saskatoon, Battleford and settled in Swift Current 1979. He retired from Sask Power in 1987 and then immediately started working with Galbraith Powerline Construction. In 1991 he became a founding partner with PMP Powerline Construction until his official retirement in 1999. Bob’s career took him all over the province where he met many different people. Over the years he has remained in contact with these many friends and acquaintances. Everywhere he went (including Mexico) he always saw someone he knew. Another of Bob’s accomplishments was organizing reunions – both for work and family. He enjoyed getting old friends and family together to reminisce and build new memories. Bob was very proud of organizing the 2000 and 2005 Sask Power line reunions, however his greatest pleasure was the 2012 Hill Family reunion. Wherever Bob lived he quickly become a member of the community volunteering countless hours to various service organizations. In Battleford he was very involved with BCYC, coaching and playing hockey. In Swift Current Bob played old timer’s hockey for many years. He was an active member of Kiwanis selling many Christmas trees and hundreds of boxes of apples. He was a very passionate member of Masonic Lodge # 26, where he spent many hours renovating the new lodge. As a WaWa Shriner he costumed as a clown for numerous parades and sold many motorcycle raffle tickets. Bob loved to travel and became a member of the Swift Current Good Sam Club, where he and Dorothy made and enjoyed many close friendships on their outings. At the time of his death he was active as Club Wagonmaster. Bob loved to fish and was often the organizer of the many trips up north. The Hill family often ate $100.00 per pound fish! Bob had a special place in his heart for children of all ages. His three grandchildren were the light of his life and he was very proud of all their accomplishments. He also was a favorite with his many nieces and nephews. Bob had a wonderful sense of humor and was always having fun or joking with someone. Even when his illness got the best of him, his humor still came through. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Dorothy; daughter Karen (Glen) Kovach, Regina, daughter-in-law Colleen Hill, Kerrobert; 3 grandchildren, Crystal Hill, Saskatoon, Jesse (Matthew) Zidkovich, Biggar and Kelly Kovach,Regina; sister Louise (Richard) Kraushaar, Rosetown, brothers Norman (Trish) Hill, Grandora and Richard (Carol) Hill, Unity; sisters-in-law, Lynn (Dieter) Roehm, Ontario and Diane (Bob) Mulder, Alberta; many cousins, nieces and nephews.
