It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, Margaret MacLeod, at Ivy Meadows Continuing Care on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, with Peggy, her loving daughter, by her side. “You were with me during my first breath, and I was there with you for your last.”
Born Dec. 4 1925, and raised in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Wilfred and Christine Stewart.
Besides her parents, Margaret was predeceased by two brothers, Gordon and Wilfred; and sisters, Florence (Hugh) Gouthro, and Delores Fraser. She is survived by sister, Anne Ruben, and sister-in-law, Maisie Smith (Robert).
Margaret was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, George.
She is survived by her seven children, George (Olga) of Toronto, Peggy (Michael) Mercer of Lower Sackville, Audrey MacQueen of Hamilton, Anne MacLeod of Sydney, Sharon (John) Bailey of Sarnia, Barbara MacLeod of Hamilton, and Edwina (Junior) Jacquard of Digby. She was a grandmother to 15 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. Numerous nieces and nephews.
Before her retirement, Margaret worked in the X-ray department of the Sydney City Hospital for 22 years.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel, service will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Margaret’s honour to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia, or to Friends of Ivy Meadows Continuing Care 125 Knowles Crescent, Beaver Bank, N.S., B4G 1E7.
The family would like to express our deepest gratitude to the angels disguised as staff at Ivy Meadows for the love, kindness and compassion you showed to Maggie.
