FRANCIS, GEORGE - With his family by his side, George Francis of Tobique First Nation passed away peacefully at his home on February 26, 2013. Born in Tobique First Nation, NB on February 24, 1934, he was the son of the late Joseph and Cecilia (Meuse) Francis. George leaves behind his wife Brenda (Barton) Francis; his daughters Lana Lennon (Kenny), Shirley Francis (Pierre Perley), both of Tobique First Nation, Pricilla Perley (Dr. Michael) of Woodstock; his son George Joseph Francis Jr. (Gail) of Tobique First Nation; his sister Fern Nicholas of Tobique First Nation; his brother Ralph Francis of Tobique First Nation; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; his first wife Anne Marie (Perley) Francis, brother Harold Francis and sister Alice Bear. George served as Chief for Tobique First Nation for two terms. He was also a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
Funeral service was held on Monday, March 4, 2013 at 11 am at St. Ann's Catholic Church. Father Curtis Sappier celebrated, assisted by Father Gilbert Doddatto. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery at a later date. Music for the service was by organist Tracy Hamilton and the Francis family. Readings were by Dr. Michael Perley and Kenny Lennon. The eulogy was given by Andrew Nicholas. Pallbearers were Tre Perley, Chris Perley, Deven Lennon, Everett Sappier, Charles Nicholas, and Brian Bear. Arrangements were entrusted to Brunswick Funeral Home, Perth-Andover.
