MacCALLUM, C. ALEXANDER (SANDY) - Peacefully in his sleep Sandy passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at his home for the past 12 years Macassa Lodge, Hamilton. He was predeceased by his wife of 61 years the former Lottie Crawford in December 2003 and granddaughter Susan in January 2009. Survived by daughter Winifred Goldsworthy and her husband Harley of New Hamburg and son Norman and wife Kathy of Hamilton, three grandchildren, Terry (Judi) Goldsworthy, Sandy (Roy) Hagle and Jeff MacCallum, grandson-in-law Luigi Laudano and eight great grandchildren Grace (Kyle) Murphy, Alex, Suzie Laudano, and McKenzie, Faith and Phillip Hagel. Also by brothers, Allan (Kay), George (Eileen) and sisters-in-law Myrna MacCallum, Bette MacCallum, Marcia MacCallum, Myrtle (Murray) Baxter, Freda Crawford and brother-in law Ernest (Sylvia) Pagett, many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by sisters Maryellen (George) Branscombe, Lois (Robert) Harding, Esther Greene, Lucy (Jack) Naylor and brothers Malcolm, Archie, Joel and Neil, brothers-in-law Mel Crawford, Donis (Phyllis) Crawford, Cliff (Marlene) Crawford, Murray Crawford and sister-in law Freda Pagett. Sandy was born in Sunny Brae (Moncton) in 1916 the son of Charlie and Luretta (Harrop) MacCallum. He married in 1942 and moved to Saint John. He was an 'ice-man' for the former Crystal Ice and then drove school bus for the Simonds School District. He joined Sears in 1953 as a stationary engineer when they opened their first store on Lansdown Avenue and retired in January 1981 after 28 years. He moved to Hamilton in 1999 and has resided at Macassa Lodge for the past 12 years where he had become "the happy hooker" hooking endless numbers of rugs. Sandy was a former member of Park Avenue United Church, Saint John East, Past Master of the former St Martins Masonic Lodge, Charter Member and Patron of Fundy Chapter #34 and a Past Worthy Grand Patron of the New Brunswick Eastern Star. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the care and support provided by the staff and friends of Macassa Lodge.
A private family graveside service will take place.
