Katherine “Gene” Brown was born at Brock, SK , received her education in Davidson and attended Normal School in Saskatoon. She met Ray Gardner when their country schools held a Christmas concert together, and they were married in October 1940. Following Ray’s discharge from the Air Force, they first lived in Saskatoon where their three sons, Douglas, Trevor and Neil were born. In 1954 the family moved to Moose Jaw where Ray joined the staff of the new Saskatchewan Technical Institute (STI) and Gene soon built a circle of close friends. Ray and Gene were members of many organizations including the Lions and Lioness Clubs, and enjoyed their cabin at Buffalo Pound. In 1971 Ray and Gene moved to Regina. They never forgot their time in Moose Jaw and kept in touch with close friends. The Gardners were charter members of Grosvenor United Church in Saskatoon, and active members of St. Andrew’s in Moose Jaw, and Sunset United in Regina. Gene loved people and being active. Gracious and genuine, she made people feel appreciated, important and welcome. In her later years Gene lived at Wintergreen Estates, Regina, and then moved to Solace Care home in March 2010. She is predeceased by her parents, her two brothers, her husband Ray and her sons Douglas and Trevor. She is survived by her sister Irene Langely, her son and daughter-in-law Neil and Carol Gardner, her daughter-in-law Maida Gardner, six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Memorial Service will be held at Sunset United Church, 177 Sunset Drive, Regina on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. Flowers gratefully declined.
