BRITTAIN, THE REV. DEACON ROBERT HENRY P.ENG - On Tuesday, March 12, 2013, the Reverend Deacon Robert Brittain died at home, surrounded by his loving family. Bob was born in Fredericton on November 24, 1944 and was predeceased by his parents Lillian (Staples) and Norman W. Brittain. He is survived by his wife Christine (Gorman) and their children and grandchildren; The Rev. Dr. Christopher (Katja) Brittain of Aberdeen, UK, Jonathan Brittain of Toronto, and their mother Patricia Craig (Michael Green), Alan Thorley (Dr. Susan Hunter) and their daughter Wren of Wallace, NS, John (Rachel) Thorley and their children William, Dominik and Jada of Moncton, Sara (Joe) Titus and daughter Emily of Canmore, AB, Kate (Geoff) Jackson of Auckland, NZ, Michael Thorley (Stacy James) and new baby, Ezra, of Saint John. He is also survived by his brothers Jim (Betty) Brittain and Bill (Barb) Brittain of Orleans, ON and his sisters in law Mary Lou (Patrick) Hickey and Patti (Emery) McGraw, Terry Gorman and brother in law Doug Gorman and his best friend, Rick (Ann) Duffy. Many great nieces and nephews will miss Uncle Bob as playmate and reader, especially Taylor and Ali Murphy and Sophie and Regan Clark. The Class of ’62 at Minto Memorial High School, have stayed great friends. Bob attended UNB on a ROTP scholarship where he received his BSc EE and MSc EE from UNB. His early work was in the development of myo-electric artificial limbs. He worked at NBTel in Engineering Design. Bob left to pursue his passion of teaching. He taught Electrical Engineering Technology at NBCC for 24 years, receiving an Excellence in Teaching award. He was a lifetime member of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of NB. Outside of his jobs Bob was always active in his church, serving in every capacity where he was required. He recently was made a lifetime member of NB Anglican Cursillo. In retirement, Bob attended the Atlantic School of Theology and on November 3, 2012, one month to the day before his cancer diagnosis, he was ordained a Deacon in the Anglican Church. During his illness he received many letters and cards reminding him of the thoughtful deeds done and the things he had taught. He lived his favourite scripture verse. “The Lord God has given me the tongue of a teacher, that I may know how to sustain the weary with a word.” Isaiah 50:4.
Service of Christian Burial will be held at The Church of The Good Shepherd, 668 Manawagonish Road on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at 11 am. Visitation with the family will be at the Church one hour before the service and at the reception following.
