Rachel MacIntyre

Lieu de naissance : Reserve Mines
Date de naissance : 28 octobre 1928

Date de décès : 19 mars 2013

It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Rachel Christina`Ritchie’ MacIntyre, 84, who passed away at Maple Hill Manor in New Waterford on March 18, 2013.
Born in Reserve Mines, Cape Breton, she was the daughter of the late Daniel J. and Elizabeth `Bessie’ McMullin.
She was predeceased by her brothers, Daniel `Dan-a-boy’, Thomas W. `Tucker’, and sister, Mary Catherine `Tattie’.
Ritchie is survived by her husband of 60 years, Lorne MacIntyre; and children, Danny (Wendy), Kathy (Mark Steadman) and Jerry (Lindy), all of Sydney; grandchildren, Leigh, Kenny, Robert, Lyn, Lisa, and Krista; six great-grandchildren; her sister, Margie (Howie) MacNeil of Big Pond; and brother, Billy (Lorraine) McMullin of Reserve Mines.
After her marriage Ritchie was active in White Cross work for a number of years, involved in the credit union and co-op movements, as well as being an unwavering supporter of the NDP. She was a member of both St. Joseph’s and Sacred Heart parishes and a longtime resident of Fairview Street in Sydney’s northend. Ritchie will be remembered as a loyal and loving wife, an understanding mother, and a friend to anyone who needed a sympathetic ear, good advice, a helping hand in hard times, or cheerful company.
She and her husband maintained an open-door policy and the MacIntyre household was a second home to relatives and friends. Because of her innate warmth and kindness, a great number of people were proud to be part of Ritchie’s large extended family.
We would like to express our gratitude to Maple Hill Manor for the thoughtfulness and care Ritchie received while she was a resident there.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 20 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney. Memorial mass on Thursday, March 21, 2013, at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, George Street, with Fr. Anthony O'Connor officiating. Burial will be at a later date.
Donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or charity of choice.
Online condolences may be sent to our web page at www.chantfuneralhome.com.
