FLAGG, FLORA L. - 1938 - 2013 - Mrs. Flora Louise Flagg of Castalia, Grand Manan Island passed away at the Saint John Regional Hospital after a lengthy illness on Wednesday, March 20, 2013. Flora passed away peacefully with her daughters by her side. While in their family fashion her son stayed to comfort her loving husband Roland back on Grand Manan Island while she was in Saint John. She was the daughter of the late Leonard and Essie (Guthrie) Leighton on Grand Manan Island. Flora married her husband Roland in 1956 and from then on they were inseparable. She worked Boning Herring, Winkling, and worked faithfully with Roland in the family Dulse business where they proudly shipped “Roland’s Dulse” to markets around the world. She enjoyed having company and will be remembered most for loving and raising her family and will be sadly missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her husband of 57 years Mr. Roland Flagg, their children Bonnie Green (Pearly), Cindy Parker (Dale), and Sandi Flagg (Mary-Nell) all of Castalia. Also her brother Darwyn Leighton (Betty) of Castalia, and one brother-in-law Earnest (Ernie) Guthrie of Grand Harbour. Eight grand children and several great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one daughter Joy, her grandson Alex, and her sister Neola Guthrie.
Visiting hours took place at Ells Funeral Home on Friday evening from 7 to 9 PM. The funeral service will take place from the Community Life Church (formerly the Grand Harbour Baptist Church) on Saturday March 23, 2013 at 1:00 PM with Rev. Jeff Benson officiating. Interment will follow at the Maple Grove Cemetery. Flora’s family has requested that donation may be made to the Charlotte County Cancer Society, Grand Manan Nursing Home, or the charity of the donor’s choice.
