Mildred Lucy Weir (Barron)
Weir (Barron), Mildred Lucy -88, Truro, passed away March 26, 2013 in Truro. Born in East Gore, Hants Co., Mildred was the daughter of the late James Hunter and Lucy (Anthony) Barron, and was the last living member of her immediate family. Mildred attended the NS Normal College and after graduating taught in Hardwoodlands and Onslow, and later as a substitute teacher in the Truro area for many years, but Mom is probably best remembered for operating Weir’s Grocery with my Dad in Salmon River for 25 years. Family and friends meant the world to Mom, she was the youngest child of a family of five and remained in close contact with all of her brothers’ immediate and extended families, and her cousins, as well as my Dad’s immediate and extended family right to the end. She had a great group of family, friends and neighbors, and they were extremely loyal to each other, through visits and phone calls. Mom loved children, dogs, cats, small animals and birds of all kinds, she could not bare to see anyone or anything suffer and would always assist in time of need. or despair, that being said she also had a way of making you understand how you should assist her– if you didn’t step up to volunteer, you might be given the look, or just be told. She was an active member of Brunswick St United Church for many years. Mildred had a very sharp mind, she could recall names and phone numbers off the top of her head, and did the word scrambles in the Daily News until a few days ago. She was most proud of her grandchildren, Jessica and Addison, and great grandchild Charlie, always knowing their routines, even confirming their whereabouts on her last evening. Mom you will be missed by your family and friends.
Mildred is survived by her son Barry (Nancy), Truro, granddaughter Jessica (Alex), grandson Addison (Cara), and great grandson Charlie all of Truro, as well as numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Lawrence (Buddy), and her older brothers Marsden, Maurice, Munro, and Addison.
