Lena Hebert
1914-2013
Lena Hebert passed away gently and peacefully at the home of her son in Dartmouth NS on Easter Sunday, March 31, one week before her 99th birthday. She was born in Joggins on April 7, 1914 daughter of Paul and Emelie (Bourque) Mills. Except for the last three years she lived in Joggins all of her adult life.
She enjoyed her family immensely and will be remembered for her acts of kindness and generosity. She loved to play cards and if you were on the losing end of a game of “auction 45” she had a very unique way of “sympathizing” with you. Her grandchildren fondly recall their many card games with “Nanny”.
She was very devoted to her Catholic faith and was a member of the St. Thomas Aquinas parish in Joggins.
Her family was her pride and joy – she will be remembered as a caring and loving mother, grand-mother, great grand-mother, and great, great grand-mother, and an aunt to many nieces and nephews. She is survived by all of her children, Yvonne (William) Wilson, Great Village NS; George (Audrey), Burlington ON; Tom, Joggins NS; Joseph ( Sue), Quispamsis NB; Roger (Joan) Sorrento BC; Norman (Judy), Dartmouth NS; Stanley (Mary), Beaverbank NS. She is also survived by a sister, Eileen Baker, Henderson, Nevada.
Beside her parents she was predeceased by her husband Amedee in 1992 and was also predeceased by fifteen brothers and sisters. Four died in early childhood - Clarence, Alice, Emma, and Ida. The others in adulthood - brothers Oliver, Fred, Arthur, Stanley, William, Harry, Chester and sisters Annie Mae (Cormier), Ella (Goode), and Marguerite (Landry).
Her remains are resting at the Furlong-Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church Street, Amherst (902-667-8777) with visiting hours on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm.
