C. Thomas “Tom” Gordon, age 77, of Hantsport, passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2013, at the Halifax Infirmary, Q.E. II, Halifax. Born Charles Thomas Gordon, on September 23, 1935, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, he was the son of the late Basil and Mary “Mamie” (Watts) Gordon. Tom owned Brooklyn Insurance, Hantsport, until his retirement and had been an Insurance Agent in Halifax for many years. In earlier years, he had worked as an electrician at the Halifax Dockyard. Tom was an avid sports enthusiast, a Blue Jays fan, loved golf, and was a former member of the Avon Valley Golf & Country Club, Falmouth. He loved music and was a life member of the Kings Fiddlers. He was a member of St. James United Church, Hantsport, and sang in the choir for many years. Tom leaves to mourn his passing, his beloved wife of 34 years, the former Muriel J. (Lyttle) Schofield; his children, Grant Gordon, Dartmouth; Joanne (Wayne) Martell, Dartmouth; 5 grandchildren, Sarah and Cameron Gordon; Natasha, Morgan and Hannah Martell; step-son, Dean (Rita) Schofield, Guelph, Ontario; 2 step-grandchildren, Gregory and Mina Schofield; sisters, Elizabeth Murphy, Halifax; Ella Ballantine, Vernon, British Columbia; Gwen Maclachlan, Bedford; Joan Matthews, Halifax; brother, Basil Gordon, Dartmouth; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Basil and Mary “Mamie” (Watts) Gordon; he was predeceased by a sister, Anna Jean Holland. Arrangements were under the care of Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor (902-798-2232) and there was no visitation by request. A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2013, in St. James United Church, Prince Street, Hantsport. The Rev. Heather MacDougall officiated. Interment was at the Riverbank Cemetery, Hantsport, followed by a reception in St. James United Church Hall. Family flowers only.
