DR. HUGH McINTYRE

Dr. Hugh Risdon McIntyre passed away peacefully at home, after a loving goodbye to his family and friends, at the age of 99. He was born in Moose Jaw on January 3, 1914. Following graduation from Ross Collegiate Institute in 1930, he received his MD from the University of Alberta, Edmonton in 1939. He married Constance (Connie) Turner on July 20, 1940. From June 1941 until December 1945, he served with the RCAF in Canada and Britain. “Dr.Mac” returned to Moose jaw to practice medicine from 1946 until 2003. After receiving his Certification of General Surgery in 1952, he served at both the Union and Providence Hospitals. He was Chief of Staff at the Moose Jaw Union Hospital from 1960 until 1983, and was President of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan in 1976. During his lifetime of service in the city of Moose Jaw, he was a member of the Moose Jaw Masonic Lodge #3, Wa Wa Temple Regina (life member), the Moose Jaw Shrine Club, and Zion United Church. He was truly a community man, touching many lives. Predeceased by his wife Connie March 20, 1999, he is survived by his children: Sylvia McIntyre – Ottawa, Patricia (Norman) McLeod – Ottawa, and Gordon McIntyre (Terry Preston) – Victoria; grandchildren: Megan, Madeline, and Catherine McIntyre. The family would like to thank Tracey and her wonderful team at “Caring Companions”, as well as all the “Home Care” caregivers who provided such excellent care and support. We are grateful to his longtime friend and housekeeper, Cheryl Johnson and other friends in the community who were always there for “Dr. Mac”. A Celebration of Dr. McIntyre’s life will be held at a later date in April. Memorial donations to a charity of choice would be appreciated.
