With broken hearts we, the family, announce the sudden passing of Wendell Mackie at his home in Reserve Mines.
Raised in the Gardiner Mines, Wendell was the son of Thelma (Currie) and the late John B. Mackie.
Wendell loved his family and friends. He especially enjoyed visiting Tim Hortons and attending many social events. He worked at the Met, Jaspers, the CBRM for a short time, Victoria Haven nursing home, and many election campaigns.
Besides his mother, Wendell is survived by his sisters, Susie, Sheila, Sharon (Mickey Flood); brothers, Joey (Ruby), Kevin (Dollena), Francie, Darrell (Beth), Cecil (Georgie), Leslie; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and special niece Shelby.
Besides his father, he was predeceased by sister, Shirley Doucette, nephew, Leon Mackie grandparents, Malcolm and Maggie Currie and Patrick and Margaret Mackie.
There will be no visitation by request. A memorial service celebrating Wendell’s life will take place Thursday, April 11, at 2 p.m. The service officiated by the Rev. Reg Currie will take place in Curry’s Funeral Home Chapel, 775 Main St., Glace Bay.
