It is with great sadness the family of Joseph Martin, Sherwood, announce his death at Beach Grove Home on Saturday, April 6, 2013.
Joe was born on July 14, 1924, and last surviving member of the late Maurice and Mary Ellen (Cummiskey) Martin family. Joe was a WW II vet and upon his return he went to work with his father at Martin’s Garage where he worked for 40 years before retiring.
He is survived by his cherished companion, Helen MacPhail, his four children - Linda (Roy) McCabe, Debby (Doug) Ramsay, John (Eileen), Ron (Karen); five grandchildren - Michelle (Kevin) Renaud, Nora, Shawn, Doug and Marcus Martin;also five great-grandchildren - Alex, Jaden, Corale, Alyssa and Breanna.
He is predeceased by his wife, Betty Morrison; his son Joe A. Martin (Joy); and his grandson, Michael Erving. Also predeceased by his parents, Maurice and Mary Ellen (Cummiskey); his sisters and brothers, Mary (Bill Connolly), Bertha (Dr. Allan MacMillan), Hazel (Ken King), Vince (Teresa), Lloyd (Eleanor), Melvin (Muriel) and Maurice (Bernice).
Joe took up residence at Beach Grove Home August of 2012 and was cared for with warmth and kindness by all the staff there. He will always be remembered for his sense of humour and his kind ways.
Resting at Belvedere Funeral Home until Tuesday at 9:45, then to St. Pius X Church for funeral mass at 10 a.m. Interment later in the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Charlottetown. Visitation Monday 4-7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ALS society in memory of his son Joe or St. Vincent De Paul Society, St. Pius X.
