Cecilia Hartt

HARTT, CECILIA - Our mother passed away peacefully at the Oromocto Palliative Care Unit on April 7, 2013. Born in Melrose, N.B. on February 15, 1916, she was predeceased by parents Henry Murphy and Margaret (O’Hearn) Murphy, husband Emmett, sisters Theresa (O’leary) and Frank Imelda (Pittman) and Stan, brothers John and Annie, Al and Irene, sisters-in-law Ella Vandenbroeck and Ted, Ruth Anson and Bob, Theresa and Janet Hartt, brothers-in-law Clement and Clara, Owen and Elsie, Leo and Kaye Douglas and Francis (Bill) and Roland McLeod. Mom grew up in Melrose and later attended and graduated at Notre Dame de Sacre Coeur in St Joseph, N.B. In 1939, she came to Minto to visit her sister the late Theresa O’Leary and met her future husband Emmett Hartt. She worked at G. B. Murphy’s 5 & 10 Store here in Minto until 1941 when she went to Toronto and married dad. Emmett served overseas during WWII and during that time, Cecilia worked for the John Inglis Company. Interestingly enough, she worked on inspecting a gun that was used by Dad’s regiment in the war. After the war, they returned to Minto and bought their present home to raise four children - three sons and a lovely daughter. Cecilia is survived by four children Darwin - Mary (Fredericton) have two sons who bring great joy to their grandmother - Jared (Joseph) and Shawn (Sarah) and a beautiful great - granddaughter Isabella Cecilia - who hold a special place in her great granny’s heart; James (Minto); Stephen - Linda (Fredericton); Joanne - (Minto); special sister-in-law Anne McLeod; and numerous nieces and nephews. Cecilia was a stay at home mom always available to help and support us. Cecilia is Charter Member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 12 Minto. Through the years, she has held every executive position in the Auxiliary. She also served as secretary for the Minto Senior Citizens Club in Minto under four presidents. She was active in the Quilting Club, Tuesday night card party, and Friday night dances. She also worked for a number of years on the $1000 monthly lottery draw that was a very successful fund raiser for the club. This draw was initiated by Doug Hartt. Dad passed away in December 1986 and is missed by his wife and family for so many reasons. Mom’s positive attitude still remains a marvel to her children. Her strong belief in God, coupled with her “love for life” are the two most valuable gifts she has given her children. She is lovingly referred to as the family’s “social butterfly.” Her hobbies included quilting, playing cards, playing bingo, and dancing. When asked her favorite, dancing remained #1! Each of her birthdays was remembered with fun, laughter, poetry and, of course, music. Her love of music was passed on to her children and grandchildren. Needless to say music is part of each family “get together”. Mom’s love for life and social gatherings never detracted from her deep faith in God and the saints. Special mention must be made of St Cecilia and St Anthony. May mom rest in peace and in joyous celebration with God, the angels and the saints, along with deceased family members. Mom was surrounded by love and support from family, with special support from Anne Mcleod and her “social” family especially Emily G. and Morris S. A special thank you to Dr Haynes and Becky, Dr Ramsay, the Extra-mural team, and staff in the Palliative Care Unit in Oromocto
