It is with great sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and mother-in-law, Delphine Faulkner, on Sunday, April 7, 2013, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Sydney Mines, she was the daughter of the late William ‘Buck’ and Elizabeth (Long) Tobin. Delphine was a member of St. Pius X parish, Sydney Mines, and was very devoted to her faith. She supported her parish in various ways, until her passing.
In her early years, she enjoyed her time as a ‘lunch lady' for St. Joseph's Elementary School in Sydney Mines, and later transferred to Memorial High School where she was employed as a cleaner.
Some of Delphine's favourite pastimes were reading, attending church, and spending time with her husband Harold, camping at Black Rock. Her biggest smiles were seen when she was with her grandchildren.
Delphine is survived by her sons, William, George and Ralph (Dale), all of Sydney Mines, and her daughter, Gail Faulkner (Harold), Sydney. Also left with broken hearts are her grandchildren, Holly, Cindy, Joannie, Courtney, Troy, Billy, Kevin and Shane and great-grandchildren, Brittney, Kaiden, Paige, Tristian, Kaiden and Kaleb.
Besides her parents, Delphine was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Harold Faulkner; sons, Kevin and Hughie Faulkner and brothers, Cyril and George Pius Tobin.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Northside General Hospital, and a special thank you to the sitters who spent so much time with Delphine making her comfortable. May God bless you.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. A celebration of her life will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, April 12, 2013, in St. Pius X Church, Sydney Mines, with Fr. Thomas John officiating. A reception will take place in the parish hall, following the mass.
