Donald Munro Fraser

Donald Munro Fraser

FRASER, Donald Munro, Truro
(April 20, 1958 – April 3, 2013)
It is with much sadness that the family of Donald Munro Fraser shares the news of the passing of this warm, wonderful and deeply beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend. A compassionate man, full of love for family and friends, Donald was the eldest son of George and Joan (Lipton) Fraser of Truro, husband of Anndrea (Kerley) and father of Charlette Helena Fraser of Gatineau, QC. Born in New Glasgow, Donald grew up in Truro. Nicknamed “Newf” at a young age, Don attended Cobequid Educational Centre in the mid-70s. An avid sports fan, Donald played minor hockey and football in his teens and, as an adult, enjoyed collecting sports memorabilia. Born with a natural ability to charm and entertain, Donald was a popular employee in several nightclubs in Truro and Ottawa. Self-employed as a gifted carpenter, Don was extremely adept with his hands and took pride in his ability to visualize and create projects that were both functional and attractive. Of all his achievements, Donald was most proud of his daughter Charlette; she brought him great joy. Although Don spent the past few decades living in the Ottawa-Aylmer area, he was never far removed from his family and friends “back home.” Funny, smart and full of opinions, he had a wonderful sense of humour and loved to make others laugh. Donald also had a deep sense of honour; he was a loyal and generous friend who quietly and selflessly helped countless others. Donald was diagnosed with terminal cancer in October 2012 and he lived the past six months with dignity. He is now at peace. Donald’s life will be joyfully celebrated by his loving wife Anndrea, treasured daughter Charlette, parents George and Joan, brother and best friend David, sisters Joanne and Lynn and their husbands David McFaul and Tomasz Hruczkowski, niece Hanna Hruczkowski, nephews Danyll Brown and Adrian Brown, extended family members Scott Brown, Kitara Brown and Kuba Hruczkowski, members of the Fraser and Lipton families, and many dear friends. A celebration of Donald’s life will be held on Friday, April 12 at Colchester Community Funeral Home (512 Willow Street, Truro) from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.; at 7:00 p.m., there will a sharing of memories of Don’s life. On Saturday, April 13, there will be a mass at 1:00 p.m., followed by a reception, at The Immaculate Conception Parish (669 Prince Street, Truro). To commemorate Donald’s life, the Fraser family asks that you kindly consider a donation to a special account established for Donald’s daughter. Gifts can be sent to The Donald Fraser Family, c/o Lynn Fraser Hruczkowski, 502 Burton Close, Edmonton, AB T6R 2B2. Thank you.
