Carl Richards "Gamp" Dickie

Dickie, Carl Richards “Gamp” 85 – Truro, and formerly of Old Barns, passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2013 in the The Mira Long Term Care Centre, Truro. Born in Truro, he was a son of the late Walter and Hilda (Richards) Dickie. Carl was a farmer all of his life. He was formerly active with Central Nova Holstein Club and was Past President of Nova Scotia Branch of Holstein Canada. He enjoyed showing Holsteins and took great pride and interest in his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed bowling, curling and formerly coached softball. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Vera (Ferguson) Dickie; daughters, Debbie Masters (Bill), Old Barns; Gayle Randle (Rick), Truro; Carlene Dickie (David Stephens), Halifax; sons, John (Darlene), Bible Hill; George (Susan), Old Barns; grandchildren, Scott Masters (Teri-Lynn), Steven Masters, Brian Masters (Angela), Monica Thompson (Cory), Mary Randle (Matthew Aiken), Anne-Marie Taylor (Andrew), Nathan Dickie (Emily Shupe), Joey Sisco (Melanie Tufts), Melissa Harrison (Adam), Lucas Dickie (Lisa), Erica (Josh) Lane; 13 great-grandchildren; brothers, Peter Dickie (Ann), Truro; Vaughn Dickie (Brenda), Onslow; sister, Estelle Rector, Truro; many nieces and nephews. Carl was predeceased by brothers, Stratton, Douglas, Keith, Gordon; sister, Doreen. Visitation will take place on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm and where funeral service will take place on Saturday April 13th at 2 pm, all in the Mattatall~Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. Rev. Ian Harrison will officiate with a reception to follow in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Old Barns Cemetery, Old Barns. Family flowers only. Donations in Carl’s memory may be made to The Mira Garden Fund, Parkinson’s Society or to a charity of choice. A special thank you to Dr. Stephen Ellis and the nurses and staff of The Mira, for the wonderful care given to Carl.
