After a long life lived at French Street, Howe Street and Warne Street, Gertrude Gillis Donovan passed to eternal life on April 8, 2013.
Born to the late Duncan and Mary (Morrison) Gillis of Whitney Pier on Dec. 29, 1909; she was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Her faith life was lived with the Catholic communities of Holy Redeemer, Whitney Pier and St. Theresa, Ashby. She was a proud member of St. Theresa C.W.L. and received her 50 year pin in 2012.
She is survived by her three children: son, Rev. Charles, O.M.I., who was her care giver for the last number of years; son, Donald (Carrie), their three children, Carrie Ann, Charlie (Sue); great-grandchildren, Sheenage and Ryanne; Donald Joseph (Tina) and great-grandchildren, Angus and Ela; daughter, Mary Catherine and her children, Colleen, James and Lynn Marie and a very special niece, Sr. Gloria O’Neil C.S.M.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved husband, Charles (1975); sisters, Mary Catherine Fraser (2004), Annie O’Neil and infant brother, Donald.
Visitation for Gertrude Donovan will take place at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Thursday, April 11 from 3-4 & 8-9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be presided by her son at St. Theresa Church on Friday, April 12 at 2 p.m. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery following lunch at St. Theresa Parish Hall.
