GERALDINE REID

GERALDINE REID

Date de décès : 10 avril 2013

REID, Geraldine Luella (nee Thompson)
March 3, 1919 - April 10, 2013

It is with profound sadness and respect that the family announces the peaceful passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend, Gerry Reid.

Gerry, called “Bumps” by her siblings and family, lived a long and productive life. She was the youngest child of Nordahl and Inga Thompson and was born and raised in Abbey, Saskatchewan.

She was predeceased by her sister Evelyn and brothers, Ernest and Mervyn. She met and married George Reid in 1943 before he enlisted in the RCAF. Upon returning after the war Gerry and George had three children, Ron (Sheena) now in Vancouver, Pat (Bob) Steele now in Calgary and Deb (Dann) Mattson now in Olds, Alberta. George passed away in 1970 before he got to know and love their nine grandchildren: Carissa and Alyssa who are Ron’s daughters; Geoff (Caren), Greg (Paula) and Jonathan who are Pat’s children; and Kurtis (Holly), Ryan (Charene), Jenna (Bram) and Brett (April) who are Deb’s children. Gerry’s family was beautifully enhanced by twelve great-grandchildren living in Calgary, Helsinki and Moscow. Her eyes sparkled when around the little ones who called her “GG”. After Abbey she sequentially lived in Saskatoon, Moose Jaw and Red Deer before moving to Calgary in 2008. Gerry developed a love for sports as a child, especially baseball where she kept score for Ron’s little and pony league teams. Her commitment to watching the Blue Jays is legendary. Her TV was invariably tuned to a sports channel. Her work life was as a book-keeper originally in the family garage and for many years in a dental office. She was stubborn and strong willed and time usually proved she was right. Her family loves and respects her wise counsel that ensured that her children were well educated, guided and grounded. At Gerry’s request there will not be a funeral. The family plans a private service in her honour.

Family and friends are encouraged to post their memories, statements of respect and condolences at www.mcinnisandholloway.com. Gerry will be interred beside her husband, George, at the Rosedale Cemetery, in Moose Jaw. Further, a plaque will be placed in the Thompson family plot in Abbey, Saskatchewan. Donations may be made in Gerry’s name to the charity of your choice.

In living memory of Bumps Reid, a tree will be planted at Big Hill Springs Park Cochrane by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Crowfoot Chapel, 82 Crowfoot Circle N.W. Telephone: (403) 241-0044.
