Nellie Gertrude Williams
Nellie passed away peacefully on April 16, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on January 8, 1922 in Amherst, Nova Scotia.
She was the daughter of the late Harriett (Bailey) and Raymond Hartford. Nellie was predeceased by her loving husband Donald Williams, brother Ronald Hartford and sister Myrtle Tower.
Nellie is survived by daughters Connie MacDonald, Truro; Jane MacKenzie (Gary),Truro; sister Bernice Kelley, Amherst; grandchildren, Kevin MacDonald (Tara), Dartmouth; Stacey Norwich (Sean),Truro ; Jake MacKenzie, Rio de Janerio; Mary Beth MacKenzie ,Truro; great grandchildren, Hailey MacDonald, Dartmouth; Grayson Norwich,Truro ; survived by several nieces and nephews.
Nellie was a member of the First Baptist Church in Amherst. She also belonged to the Mother’s Association and the Rebekah Lodge #36.
Nellie was a kind and loving mother and grandmother.
She lived a very active lifestyle, she enjoyed biking, swimming and dancing. She had a great sense of humour that was enjoyed by all who knew her.
Nellie’s family would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff of Elk Court Long Term Care Facility in Brookfield for the wonderful loving care provided. Mom thoroughly enjoyed the years she spent at Elk Court where the staff became her extended family. Nellie will be truly missed by all.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Furlong-Jones Funeral Home, Amherst, (902-667-8777). No visitation by request. A funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church, 90 Victoria Street, Amherst on Wednesday, April 24 at 2:00pm. Spring interment at Amherst Cemetery at a later date. Family flowers only. If so desired donations in Nellie’s memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
