Laura Gertrude Weir
WEIR, (Cook) Laura Gertrude Marie – 83, Truro, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 15, 2013, in the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Cooks Cove, Guysborough Co., on December 20, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Albert and Amelia (Peterson) Cook.
Laura was a long time teacher in Nova Scotia, but her love of adventure and travel led her to teaching in Northern Alberta, where her love of the "North" took her back many times. Laura’s other loves besides her family and friends was dancing, snowmobiling, curling and travel. She will be greatly missed by all those that knew her. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her brother, Murrey Cook (Nancy), Cooks Cove; her loving children, Elizabeth (Larry) Collier, Brentwood; and Roddie (Barbara) Weir, Edmonton; grandchildren, Nicole, Michelle, Terri and Ian. Her precious great-grandchildren, Mathew, Tanner, Willow, Liam and Ella. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Daniel; sisters, Mabel Cook and Esther Myers.
Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. on Sunday, April 21, in Wesley United Church, Guysborough, from where funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, April 22 with Rev. Heather Manuel officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Guysborough. In lieu of flowers, donations in Laura’s memory may be made to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Diabetic Association or charity of choice.
