
Elexena (Ena) Ames
AMES, ELEXENA (ENA) MAY - Elexena (Ena) Ames passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Pine Grove Nursing Home on Thursday, April 18, 2013, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. Born in Priceville, N.B. on February 3, 1924, she was the daughter of the late William and Katherine (Vickers) Price. She married her husband Donald Ames on August 9, 1952. Ena was a school teacher and principal in Fredericton for many years, teaching at both Memorial and McAdam Ave. schools. She was involved in several clubs and service groups, including the IODE and Y's Menettes. She also served on St. John the Evangelist Anglican church vestry. When she retired, she and her husband, Donald, travelled extensively including a number of trips out west and to Alaska. They spent many happy winters in Florida. Ena is survived by her husband Donald; daughter Elizabeth Turgeon (James) of Fredericton; son Harry Ames (Elizabeth) of Edmonton; grandchildren: Tanya Ames (Greg Ritz) of Edmonton; Chris Ames (Gillian Gregory) of Montreal; Matthew Ames (Madeleine Cook) of Ottawa; Joseph Turgeon (Laura Turgeon) of Fredericton; Jeremy Turgeon (Stephanie McAnany) of Fredericton; Rebecca (Becky) Turgeon (Matthew Dubay) of Fredericton; and one great granddaughter born March 11, 2013, Victoria May Ames Ritz whose picture was by her bedside. She is also survived by one brother Edmund Price (Freda), a sister-in-law Vesta Price, sister-in law and brother-in-law Pat and Ronald Ames, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by one bother Clem and two sisters Sade and Frances.
There will be no funeral home visitation at Ena's request. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 22, 2013, at St. John’s Parish Center, 75 Main Street in Fredericton with Rev. Canon Bill MacMullin officiating. Reception to follow the funeral service in the hall. Burial will take place at Mactaquac Cemetery following the reception.
