GARDNER: Mary Anna Gardner of Mankota, SK passed away on April 17, 2013, at the Prairie View Health Centre in Mankota at the age of 102. Mary was born in Balgonie, SK to Philip and Magdalin Schafer on March 24, 1911. She was the fourth in a family of twelve. She was two years old when her parents moved to the Billimun District. She married George Gardner on January 9, 1934. They lived on the family farm until 1960 and then moved to the town of Mankota. Mary enjoyed life working in her garden, doing farm work and helping people. She was a C.W.L. member and a member of the Legion. She liked to play bingo and bowl. Mary was always very involved in local activities in the community. Due to failing health she moved into the Health Centre in Mankota. She was predeceased by her husband George in 2003, son Edward in 1988, her parents, her sister and brothers. Mary is survived by her eight grandchildren Vic (Elena) Gardner, Bev Gardner, Linda (Ron) Prosser, Doreen (Rob) Myers, Richard (Colleen) Gardner, Janice (Gary) Renaud, Darrell Gardner, Sharon (Larry) Berreth. 14 great grandchildren, nine great great grandchildren, one daughter-in-law Pauline Gardner, one brother Lorne Schafer, three sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews. The prayer service for Mary was held Friday, April 19, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. from St. Albert Catholic Church in Mankota with Father Franklin Emereuwa officiating. The Funeral Mass took place Saturday, April 20, 2013 at 1:00 pm from St. Albert Catholic Church with Father Franklin Emereuwa officiating. The organist was Joan Stengler accompanied by the Catholic Church Choir. The Ushers were James Gardner and Colleyn Roebuck. The pallbearers were Adon Gardner, Travis Gardner, Brendan Gardner, Tyler Myers, Ira Renaud and Kent Berreth. The Interment Service took place at the Mankota Cemetery. Mary will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by her family and friends. In her memory, memorial donations may be made to the Prairie View Health Centre Auxiliary or the Charity of the donor's choice. Lemieux Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
