ROGERS, RUTH ELIZABETH (nee STEEVES) - February 1, 1919 - April 17, 2013 - Ruth Rogers, daughter of the late Robert and Elizabeth Steeves, passed away in Edmonton at the age of 94, following a period of declining health. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, John (Jack) Rogers (2003) and her brother, Robin Steeves (1968). Ruth leaves behind her daughter, Marian (Laurie) Allen in Edmonton and her son, Bob (Ada) Rogers in Fredericton, NB. She was blessed with grandsons, Paul (Nicole) with children Izabella and Asa, Mark (Jackie), and Peter (Tiffany) with Elijah in Edmonton; granddaughter, Beth, in Vancouver; and grandsons, Michael (Shawna) in Saint John, Kevin (Andrea) with twins, Meghan and Katelyn in Cornwall, PEI, and Dan (Jen) with children, Cameron and Morgan in Fredericton. Ruth was born and raised in Moncton, NB, and later attended Acadia University. She met Jack when he was in the air force, stationed in Moncton. After the war they lived in northern BC and in Alberta, settling in Calgary in 1956. For over 55 years she was active in Scarboro United Church and the Calgary Canadian Club and she volunteered for organizations such as Meals on Wheels. Ruth was an avid bridge player, a member of both the Glencoe Club and the Ranchman’s Club, and she enjoyed weekly Bible study at Christ Church. A Maritimer at heart, Ruth loved her trips East. She enjoyed swimming in salt water and eating lobster and oysters on the half shell. After moving out of her family home in SW Calgary, she lived at Fountains of Mission retirement home for three years. Last summer she moved to Edmonton. The family thanks the staff at ExquisiCare Westcliff Place for the excellent care that they provided. Ruth will be fondly remembered as a kind person who always enjoyed talking and listening to people about what they were doing. Her generosity with her children and grandchildren is especially valued.
