Lieu de naissance : New Glasgow, Nouvelle Ecosse, Canada
Date de décès : 28 avril 2013
Alexander James (Sandy) MacDonald, age 61 of Stellarton, passed away peacefully April 28, 2013 at the Halifax Infirmary. Born in New Glasgow, he was the eldest son of the late Millan and Pearl (Murray) MacDonald, Stellarton.
Sandy was a graduate of Stellarton High School and began his working life at the Department of Mines in Stellarton. From there he ventured west to work in the mining industry, eventually returning to Pictou County where he remained until his passing. Sandy was a member of the RCAF Association 110 Wing Stellarton, where he was employed as Custodian, and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 28 Stellarton.
Sandy was a kind and gentle man, who was blessed with a green thumb and a love of gardening. He was a faithful caretaker to many beautiful gardens in the area. Sandy also had a passion for cooking. He enjoyed cooking everything from a traditional turkey dinner to fish chowder and rabbit stew. “Stay out of my kitchen!” was often heard as he prepared one of his special creations. His love of the outdoors, the camp at Trafalgar, and his daily bike rides through town will serve as cherished memories for the many friends he leaves behind.
For almost 25 years Sandy was a loving husband to Joyce MacDonald, Northwood Manor, Halifax. She will miss his special brand of care, their daily chats and his ability to make her laugh. He is also survived by stepdaughter Rhonda (Mike Fillmore) MacDonald, special grandson Matthew Fillmore, Timberlea; stepsons Randy and Larry, Merigomish; brothers Donald (Martha), Stellarton; Duncan, New Glasgow; Millan, Stellarton; and sister Margaret (Brian) Archibald, Aspen; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In keeping with Sandy’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 2nd in the chapel of the H. W. Angus Funeral Home, 256 King St., New Glasgow, Rev. Charles MacPherson, family friend, officiating. A reception will follow at the RCAF Association 110 Wing 221 Foord St., Stellarton. Internment of ashes will take place at a later date.
