Agnes Florence Dixon, 80, of Dolphin Crescent, Glace Bay, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 28, 2013, at the Glace Bay Hospital.
Born Dec. 11, 1932, in Bay St. Lawrence, Agnes was the daughter of the late John and Jane (Burton) Brown, and was the last of her 13 siblings.
She was a member of St. Leo’s parish.
Agnes will be sadly missed by her daughters, Juanita (Bernie) Steele, Glace Bay, N.S., Flora (Garry) Noel, Moncton, N.B.; and son, Wayne of Oxford, N.S. as well as her grand puppies, Syd and Vicious, whom she loved dearly.
She was employed at Highland Fisheries for eight years. Agnes will be remembered for her sharp wit and compassionate nature. She loved her family dearly and Sunday’s were always reserved at her place for family meals. Agnes also was an avid card player.
She will always be remembered fondly as ‘Ma’ by her circle of friends at the Army & Navy Unit 246.
She was predeceased by her husband, Charlie, daughter, Linda and son, Albert as well as sisters, Julie Brown, Georgina Young, Eunice Fitzgerald, Emma Fitzgerald, Mae Brown, Ellen Brown, Cecelia Brown, Margaret Daisley and by brothers, Daniel James, Earl, William and Michael.
Visitation will be at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay on Wednesday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. The Funeral mass officiated by Rev. Norman MacPhee is Thursday at 2 p.m. in St. Anne’s Church followed by interment in the parish cemetery. A reception will be held in the church foyer.
