
Edith Hickey
HICKEY, EDITH CAVELL (BISHOP) - 1916 - 2013 - Edith Cavell Hickey, 97, of Kenneth Spencer Memorial Home passed away peacefully on April 30th, 2013 at the home. Edith was born in Harvey Bank, Albert County on February 25th, 1916 the daughter of the late Judson C. and Alena B. (Calhoun) Bishop. Edith graduated from Riverside Consolidated School in 1936. She attended the Montreal General Hospital School of Nursing and graduated with her RN in 1939. This was definitely her calling as the love of looking after people was what she did best. She was an exceptional bedside nurse at the Moncton Hospital for many years. Those who passed by her hands remember her as caring, kind and practical. She continued as a Registered Nurse until her retirement. She also had a great sense of humor and dry wit, she was a very funny lady. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed knitting and quilting. She loved her family very much and they were her everything. She loved spending time with them and looked forward to the family gatherings. Her grandchildren really made her days when they came to visit. She was truly an inspiration to all who knew her and she has left a lasting impression on her family and friends forever. She will be deeply missed by her son, Ross Hickey (Paulette) of Moncton; five daughters, Lynn Fletcher of Riverview, Joan McConnell (Gary) of Moncton, Deborah Butland (Ricky) of Riverside- Albert, Ellen Hughson (John) of Renforth and Julie Groundwater (Jeff) of Moncton; her precious 14 grandchildren and numerous cherished great grandchildren. She will also be missed by several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Marvin Hickey; sisters, Pearl Bishop, Julia Fullerton and Anne Kessler; brother, George Bishop.
She will be resting at the Albert County Funeral Home with visitation on Thursday evening from 7 to 9pm. The funeral service will be held at the Albert County Funeral Home on Friday, May 3rd, 2013 with Rev. Scott Ryder officiating at 11:00am. Following the service the family will be meeting with relatives and friends for further fellowship, sharing of memories and for refreshments at the funeral home reception area. Interment will be in the Mountain View Cemetery, Lower Cape, NB. Family flowers only please. Donations in Edith's memory may be made to the Friends of the Moncton Hospital or to the Kenneth Spencer Memorial Home Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
