Gordon Toole

TOOLE, Gordon D.
Brookside
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Gordon Dexter Toole, age 75, of Brookside, surrounded by family in Colchester East Hants Health Centre in Truro, Nova Scotia on April 27, 2013, after a courageous battle with heart and lung disease. He was born in Beaverbrook, NS, a son of the late Percy and Nita (Carter) Toole. As a young boy he worked in a sawmill with his father, then with Sproule Lumber, and J. G Parker & Son as a Tractor Mechanic, where he worked for the next 28 years. There wasn't a tractor or bailer he couldn't repair. He was a good carpenter as well. After retiring he enjoyed his sawmill in Balmoral, liked travelling, especially getting in his truck and going for a drive, and a good game of crib with whomever had the time. Gordon was called upon many times by farmers around the area to help get their equipment back up and running, be it on site or over the phone consultations. Despite his ill health he was able to attend a tractor pull in 2012 at the Truro Exhibition Grounds, which he thoroughly enjoyed. He is survived by his companion and best friend, Thelma Hayman; children, Kelly (Donna), Glenda Cameron (John), Paul (Donna MacCallum), James (Debbie Hoyt); stepchildren, Lynn Hayman (Wayne Manning), Ruby MacKenzie (Gordon), Lois (Chris Forsythe), Rosalee Hayman, Debbie Manning, Lori MacKenzie; grandchildren, Morgan Toole, Caley, Caitlyn, and Patrick Cameron, Marree MacKenzie (Mike Falconer), Fiona MacKenzie, Brett and Jack Forsythe, Zachary Hayman; great grandchildren, Devyn Cameron and Angus Gordon Falconer; and his faithful feline companion, Kate, who stayed by his side day and night. Also surviving are his children's mother, Helen Toole; brothers, Willard, Hubert, Earl, Albert, and Alton; sisters, Sadie Pierce and Dollie Ferguson; in-laws, Bill Roberts, Scott Roberts, Donald and Diane Hayman. He was predeceased by his siblings, Merlin, Ross, Miriam Hazelwood, Janie Irene (in infancy) and in-law, Bruce Roberts. In lieu of flowers, donations in Gordon's memory may be made to a charity of your choice or local VON. A fund will be set up with C.E.C. (Scholarships and Awards) for a student enrolled in an Agricultural Mechanics Course (farm tractors), graduating in 20013. Drop in or mail donation to C.E.C. 34 Lorne St., Turo, NS B2N 3K3. Tax receipts will be issued. The family would like to extend gratitude to Dr. Trevor Locke, VON, EHS Ambulance Service, Palliative Care with Colchester East Hants Health Authority, and McLaren Funeral Home for their support during this difficult time. His family would like to welcome everyone to an Open House at the North River Fire Hall on May 6, 2013 from 2-5 PM. Private family burial will be in Valley Crossroads and The Falls Cemeteries.
