It is with sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Kenneth ‘Butchie’ Marshall Nicholson age 56 of Reserve Mines and in his later years, he resided in Dominion. Butchie passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2013 at his residence.
Born in Halifax, Butchie was the son of the late James and Anna (Matthews) Nicholson. Kenny was a great carpenter. He was a loving father to his two sons and was always there for them. He enjoyed all sports, he played hockey and was a fan of the Montreal Canadians. He was an avid card player, especially, tarbish. He enjoyed all types of music, especially Celtic and was a master at playing the spoons. He was a member of the dart league at Reserve Mines legion. Butchie was everyone’s friend and would do anything for you and ask for nothing in return. Butch was a great neighbour and a well known member of the community.
Butch will be sadly missed by his loving sons, Kenny and Brandon, Glace Bay; former wife and friend, Fay MacPherson (Dave) Andrews, Glace Bay; brothers, Eric (Nina), Glace Bay, Rannie, Connecticut, Donnie (Cindy), Abbotsford, B.C.; sisters, Georgina (Harold) Young, New Minas, Lynn (Albert) Strang, Lower Sackville, many nieces, nephews and numerous friends.
Besides his parents, Butchie was predeceased by his brothers, Timmie, Kenny, Joey and a sister, Marjorie Conrad.
In honoring Butchie’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and guidance of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. on Friday, May 10, 2013 in the funeral home chapel with Fr. Daniel Boudreau officiating. A graveside service will be held at a later date at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Glace Bay.
Donations in Butchie’s memory may be made to St. Vincent de Paul.
