Alfred Melanson

MELANSON, ALFRED JOSEPH DAMIEN - 1927 - 2013 - It is with deepest sadness that we must announce the passing of beloved husband and father, Alfred Joseph Damien Melanson, who passed away at home in the presence of family, Wednesday, May 8, 2013. Born in Saint André, N.B. January 10, 1927, he was the son of Damien (deceased) and Elise (Richard) (deceased) Melanson. Predeceased by a son, Louis Melanson, a daughter, Jeannita Melanson, brothers Albert, Donat, George, Arthur and sister Leonie. Survived by sisters: Lina, Yvonne, Edmee, Florida and youngest brother Romeo. He was a devoted husband, father and grand-father. He was a man of courage, integrity and had a heart of gold. He was an excellent carpenter and tradesman and was respected by family, friends and his community. He loved his garden, woodworking, playing cards and had a wonderful sense of humour. Alfred will be sorrowfully missed by his wife of 63 years, Catherine (nee Gallant); and seven surviving children, Alfreda MacLean (John Brine) of Amherst, N.S., Paul of Sackville, N.B., Laurie(Susan Crossman) of Sackville, N.B., Rose-Marie (Norman) Webb of Sackville, N.B., John of Dorchester, N.B., Peter (Melanie Herring) of Uigg, P.E.I, Elizabeth (Bert) Rideout of Trenton, ON; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Alfred's arrangements have been entrusted into the care of Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge Street, Sackville (364-1300). By family request, there will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Monday, May 13, 2013 at the funeral home. Interment to follow in the Holy Rosary Cemetery. Father Allison Carroll officiating. Those wishing to make a donation in Alfred's memory may do so to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Canadian Lung Association.
