Mike Nannos, age 61 of Birkley Street, Glace Bay, passed away suddenly on Thursday, May 2, 2013, at his residence.
Mike was born in 1951 on the Island of Salamis, Greece to the late Nikoloas and Sofia (Lafiotis) Nannos.
After arriving in Canada, Mike worked with his brother, Steve at Mike's Lunch before opening his own business, Sofias Restaurant in Glace Bay. Mike later returned to work with his brother at Mike's Lunch.
Mike served two years in the Greek Army. He was an avid soccer fan as well as a player in his younger years. Mike was very personable and made many friends in his long career in the restaurant business. He will be sadly missed.
Mike is survived by his daughter, Sofia, Germany; son, Brandon, Dominion; brothers, Stamati ‘Steve’ and his wife, Raylene, Glace Bay, John, Andreas and his wife, Toula, Greece and a sister, Soula, Greece.
Besides his parents, Mike was predeceased by a sister, Amalia Sofra.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 17, 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral service will take place on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at 2 p.m. in St. Mary's Anglican Church, Marconi Street, Glace Bay. Rev. Theodore Efthimiadis officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Glace Bay/Sydney Highway. Following the service all are invited to join the family for a reception at the North Street Pensioners Club, Glace Bay.
As an expression of sympathy for Mike, memorial donations in his memory may be made to the STS Anargyree Greek Orthodox Church.
