James Ricky ‘Rick’ Harper

1951-2013
It is with great sadness that the family of James Ricky ‘Rick’ Harper, age 61, of Amherst, NS, announce his passing on Friday, May 11, 2013 at home. Born in Amherst, he was the son of the late Hubert and Pauline (Scott) Harper.
Over the years, Rick gave much of his time to volunteering with Bantam and Little League baseball. For a time, he was a member of the Amherst Duplicate Bridge Club. Above all, his greatest personal interest was archaeology, but he also had a love for animals, carpentry, photography and music. In his former years, he was heavily involved with Cadets and the Reserves/Militia.
Early in his career, Rick worked for Dunlap’s Hardware. He then spent the majority of his career with Correctional Services Canada until his retirement after 27 years. Since then, Rick had started and was operating his own solar panel business in the local area.
Rick is survived by his daughter Natasha (Mark) Robinson, Elmsdale, NS; two sons James and Shawn, both of Amherst NS; his brother Robin (Evelyn), Saint John, NB; his sister Linda (Brian) Landry, Amherst, NS; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Furlong-Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church Street, Amherst, (667-8777). Visitation will take place on Thursday, May 16, 2013 at the funeral home from noon - 2pm, followed immediately by a funeral service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lillian Allbon Animal Shelter, Amherst, NS.
