Passed peacefully away at the Golden Heights Manor, Bonavista, on May 11, 2013, Wilson George Harris, age 93 years, of Catalina, NL. Predeceased by parents, Frederick and Maggie Harris, sister Gladys Thompson, and brother Frank. Leaving to mourn his loving wife Gladys of 66 years. Happily remembered by his children: Linda (Maxwell Sweetland), Lorraine (Cyril Drodge), Velma (Ulrich Mueller), Melvin (Eva), Eileen (Ken Rollings), Allan (Denice); his eleven grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, sister Grace (Marvin Baker) and a large circle of relatives and friends. Wilson worked in the field of Education, as a Teacher and Principal for 36 years. He also spent 19 years as a Teacher and Co-ordinator of the Adult Education Program from which he received an Honorary Life Membership. He was a member of the Masonic Landfall Lodge #12, Honorary Member of the Royal Canadian Legion and was Secretary of the Navy League in Catalina for 5 years. Wilson enjoyed many years working with the Catalina Library Board and his most satisfying voluntary work was the 35 years with the NL Lung Association. As per Wilson’s request, cremation has taken place. There will be visitation at Strathie’s Funeral Home, Catalina, on Thursday, May 16, 2013, from 10:00 a.m.- 9:00 p.m. Funeral Service to take place on Friday, May 17, 2013 at the Bethany United Church, Catalina at 12:00 noon. Interment to follow at the Bethany Cemetery, Catalina. Donations, in lieu of flowers, can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
