Passed peacefully away at the Corner Brook Long Term Care on Monday, May 6th, 2013, at the age of 95 years. Gwen will be sadly missed by her nieces and nephews: David Osmond (Maxine), Halifax, NS, Brenda Bray, Waterdown, ON, Allan Skanes (Dianne), Corner Brook, Derek Osmond (Valentyna Lupashko), Ireland, Beverley Skanes (David McLennon), St. John’s, Margaret Wilson, St. John’s, Elizabeth Skanes (Kent Jingfors), St. John’s. She will also be sadly missed by sisters-in-law: Jean Skanes, and Roberta Skanes, wife of Brian Skanes (deceased), Corner Brook. She was predeceased by her parents, Reginald and Edith, sisters Diana Osmond (Jack), Mary Skanes, Jean Skanes, brother, Eric Skanes and nephew Brian Skanes. The family would like to thank the staff of the Corner Brook Long Term Care for the loving care given to Gwen. Visitation took place from Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 4 St. Marks Avenue on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9:00 p.m. The funeral service was held on Thursday, May 9th at 2:00 p.m. from The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, Main Street with Dean Baxter Park officiating. The interment followed at Mt. Patricia Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, flowers are graciously accepted or donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
