Glenn Scott Chenell, March 7, 1951 – May 20, 2013, Sylvester, passed away at home, just as he wished, surrounded by his loving family and into the awaiting arms of his beloved son Craig.
Glenn was the oldest child of Audrey and the late Walter Chenell of Sylvester.
Glenn worked at Maritime Auto Supply New Glasgow since 1969. No one knew cars like Glenn but his true passion was running. During his 30 years in the sport, he became known as “Big Dog” and he completed 86 marathons, including six Boston Marathons, several ultra marathons and countless shorter distance runs. He made many lifelong friends who will miss his quick wit, slightly off color humor and his plethora of running statistics. Since his son Craig’s death in 2009, Glenn was very committed to the development of the nature trail, “Craig’s Way” through the Friends of Redtail Society.
When diagnosed with cancer 18 months ago, Glenn faced it head on with hope, dignity and determination to make the most out of every single precious moment he had remaining. His strength and courage since the beginning of his own personal “marathon for life” was an inspiration to all who knew him. Glenn was a friend to many people and touched so many lives in so many different ways. He will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him. Glenn and Elizabeth had 39 wonderful years; together they enjoyed a full and loving life, respecting and supporting each other’s interests.
Besides his mother, Glenn is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (MacKay), sons Michael and Mark and grandson Connor, who he idolized. He is also survived by his brothers Jimmy (Mary), Loch Broom; Graham (Helen), Riverview, NB; sister Lois Miller (Kelvin), Salt Springs; special Aunt Doreen MacLeod, Braeshore; and his father and mother-in-law, James V. and Jean MacKay, Scotsburn. He is also survived by a large extended family and was a very special uncle to his many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his youngest son, Craig and his father, Walter.
Visitation will be at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville on Thursday, May 23, from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Funeral will be held on Friday, 2 p.m. at Scotsburn United Church with Rev. Jim Webber-Cook officiating. Interment to follow at Heatherdale Memorial Gardens.
