William 'Chubby' McLeod

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Chubby McLeod on May 23, 2013 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in New Waterford, he was the son of the late William Charles and Nellie (Bishop) McLeod. Chubby worked for Devco as a coal miner in Lingan, Phalen and Prince Mine for 24 years. He then travelled with his soul mate Anne to Alberta and worked for Grande Cache Coal as a millwright for the past eight years until his illness. Chubby and Anne recently moved back to Cape Breton. He loved spending his summers camping at Mira Water Park and thoroughly enjoyed a game of horseshoes with his buddies and sharing laughs at the men’s bingo.
Chubby was a man of few words but when he spoke his words said volumes. He will be remembered as a wonderful father, a devoted grandfather and a loyal friend. His sense of humour along with his many pranks and mischievous smile will be cherished memories that will live on in everyone who knew him.
Surviving are his soul mate and best friend, Anne (McLellan) Muir; his son, Robert (Linda) Victoria Mines; daughter, Loretta (Mark), New Waterford; son, Jason (Judy), Sylvan Lake, Alta., son, Jeremy (Jill), Grande Prairie, Alta. and daughter, Jillian, Sylvan Lake, Alta. His children will be forever grateful for having him in their lives and all that he has done for them; sisters, Sheila Petrie, Susan (George), New Waterford, Rose (Jim) Funderburke, North Carolina; brothers, Alex (Delphine), Ernie (Emma), New Waterford, George (Mary), Ken (Dianne), Fred (Ella), all of Ontario; grandchildren, Mark, Curtis, Katie and Luke; goddaughter, Tanya McLeod; 22 nieces and nephews and his two loyal buddies, Kasey and Jules.
Chubby was predeceased by parents and his sister, Geneva Brown.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Sunday, May 26, 2013, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and a funeral mass to celebrate Chubby’s life will be held Monday, May 27, 2013 at 10 a.m. in the Parish of Saint Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Fr. Norman McPhee officiating. Interment in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Lingan. A reception to follow at the K.O.C , Plummer Avenue. All are welcomed.
