It is with deep sadness that we must announce the passing of Lucy Sawatzky, age 80, of River Hebert, NS. Lucy passed away peacefully at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre on Tuesday, May 28, 2013.
Born in River Hebert, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Elizabeth (Herwell) Morris.
As a young lady, Lucy served with the Royal Canadian Air Force. She was very active in the St. Alban's Anglican Church in River Hebert. She was a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary. An active member of the community she was village clerk for a number of years and a member of the Board of Trustees for the River Hebert Schools. She always looked forward to summers at her cottage with her sisters.
She will be dearly missed by her husband Peter, River Hebert, daughters Lisa (Carl) Quinn, Southampton, Elizabeth "Beth" Sawatzky, Toronto, Vanessa Sawatzky, River Hebert; grandchildren Steven and Marina Quinn; sister Marg (Don) Pickrem, Truro; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters Barbara Pociuk and Anne Hatherly.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St, Amherst, NS (902-667-8777) where visiting hours will take place on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral services will be held at Christ Church, Amherst on Friday, May 31, 2013 at 11 am, Rev. Glenn Eason officiating.
Lucy's family would like to thank the VON of Amherst, Dr. Samad and the nurses of the Oncology Unit at the Moncton City Hospital and the nurses at the Palliative Care Unit at the CRHCC. A special thank you to Dyke O'Brien.
