Passed peacefully away on June 4, 2013 at Chancellor Park, St. John’s, in her 94th year, Aileen Kendall Martin nee Bastow; daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Predeceased by her daughter Gillian Martin (1955), mother Charlotte Mabel Collier (1956), father Hugh Alan Bastow (1975), brother Gerald Hugh Bastow (1980), husband Graham Robert Martin (1982), granddaughter Nicole Michelle Lane (1984), brothers: David Alan Bastow (2003) and his wife Susanna Parsons (1994), Douglas Frederick Bastow (2004) and his wife Elizabeth R. Chafe (2010) in Vancouver; sister Ruth Bernice Miller (Bastow) (2004) and her husband Herbert E.G. Miller (1960); and brother Gordon Collier Bastow (2011). A Bastow line that started in St. John’s in 1845 has lost another member. Aileen is warmly remembered by many friends and family near and far. Leaving to mourn daughters: Marilynne Lane (Doug) in Brigus Junction; Glenda Reid (Bruce), her grandchildren: Sgt. Colin Reid of Petawawa, ON, Katie-Beth Dance (Mat), Stephanie Reid, great-grandchildren: Hayden and Eliot Dance, all in Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario; sons: Geoff Martin (Lorraine Arsenault) in Calgary, Alberta, Stephen Martin (Dominique Larocque and grandchildren: Gillianne and Laura Larocque Martin in St. John’s. Also sisters-in-law: Mardi Bastow, Chancellor Park, St. John’s and Jean Bastow in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia and Vera Martin, St. John’s, NL and nieces and nephews in Canada from Newfoundland to British Columbia. Visitation will take place at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Thursday from 7 - 9 p.m.; Friday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. - 12 noon. Funeral service will be held from The Carnell Memorial Chapel, on Saturday, June 8, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Kenmount Road cemetery.
