Deena Brooks (nee Balser), loving mother, daughter, sister and friend, died unexpectedly in her home in New Lowell, Ontario at the age of 50. She is survived by her daughters Cayley and Kristin, brothers Michael and Eric and mother Frieda and was predeceased by her father, John. Deena graduated from Digby Regional High School in Nova Scotia in 1980. After receiving her Registered Medical Technologist certificate at the Nova Scotia Institute of Technology in Halifax in 1982, she got in her little Mini, headed to Ontario and never looked back. She was very brave. Over her 30 year career in histology she worked at Toronto General, Sick Kids and Sunnybrook hospitals in Toronto, Soldier’s Memorial Hospital in Orillia and had recently become a permanent staff technologist at Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie. An avid outdoor sports enthusiast, Deena participated in adventure races and was a dedicated mountain biker, a passion that she passed on to her children. We will miss her great heart, clever wit and bright smile. A memorial will be held in Nova Scotia in the coming weeks. All who knew Deena are welcome to attend.
