She was predeceased by her husband Edward of Highlands, parents Joseph Hynes and Gertrude (Hickey) Hynes (Woods Island), grandson Michael MacInnis, siblings: Elizabeth Gillis (Michael), Dorothy Gillis (Arnold),Patrick Hynes (Gertrude) and John Jim Hynes. The people and the history of her beloved Woods Island were always at the forefront of Mary's mind. She left home in 1936 to teach in Halfway Point, St Fintans and the Highlands, where she later became post mistress. She had a wonderful sense of humor, and in her life she became a close friend to everyone around her. She was quick to give a history lesson, and recorded in writing many of the events that she witnessed during her childhood. We want to thank those people who cared for our Mother: Barbara Gillis of Highlands, the loving staff at the "bungalows", Corner Brook Long Term Care facility, and Western Memorial Hospital. These people became part of her family, and cared for her so, and for that we are eternally grateful. Cremation has taken place at Humber Valley Crematorium. Friends may visit St. Columcilla Parish in Highlands on Sunday 2-4 p.m. from where the funeral service will be held on Monday, June 10 at 10:00 a.m. with Father O’Quinn officiating. Interment to follow at the Roman Catholic Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, f lowers will be graciously accepted, or donation may be made to a charity of one’s choice. The family guest book may be signed or a memorial donation may be made through our website www.fillatre.ca.
