Ronald Dixon Roach
Ronald Frank Dixon Roach, April 10, 1917 - June 5, 2013 passed away in his residence at Centennial Villa, Amherst, NS. the morning of June 5, 2013. Ron was a living history book for local affairs, able to recount a lifetime of names and events. He thoroughly enjoyed conversing with his family and friends. Ron attended Agricultural College in Truro and then operated the family farm in Nappan, NS until his retirement. In conjunction with other farmers he was instrumental in founding the local CO-OP. Ron remained physically active into his 80’s enjoying golf and curling. He was a member of the Nappan United Church and more recently Trinity St. Stephen’s United Church, Amherst.
Ron is predeceased by his parents Frank and Laura (Johnson) Roach, first wife and mother of his children, Hazel Patricia (MacKenzie), and his second wife June (Chapman); eldest son, Kenneth and only sister Ruth (Roach) Bacon.
Ron's children are Patricia Roach, (son and daughter Alexander and Lauren Dickhout) of Coquitlam, B.C., ; Allan Roach, (wife Cheryl, daughters Elizabeth, Natalie and Meghan) of London, ON., Mary Roach, (husband David Strum, son Andrew) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Margaret Stewart (husband Neil, sons David, Reuben, Jared and Kurt) of Fredericton, NB. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 6-9 p.m. in Campbell’s Funeral Home, Amherst, NS. (902-667-9906) The service will be held on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at 11 a.m., at the funeral home chapel with Rev. Susan Estabrooks officiating. Interment will follow in the Amherst Cemetery. Memorial donations in Ron’s memory may be made to the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre Foundation or the charity of your choice.
