Anne Elizabeth Proser, 80, Paqtnkek First Nation, Antigonish Co., passed away on June 7, 2013, at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital in Antigonish.
She was the daughter of Julia (Kane) Martin and Frank Martin and wife of the late Wilfred Prosper.
For approximately 40 years Anne had served the Paqtnkek community as a medical driver. Throughout the years Anne had cooked many meals, made many quilts and has helped numerous people in a variety of ways. Anne was an avid gardener, crafts person, business owner, friend, mentor, mother, godmother, grandmother, great and great-great-grandmother.
Anne was predeceased by her sisters, Lucy and Rita (Martin), brothers, Albert, Danny, Allister, son, John F. Prosper and daughter, Karen Anne Francis.
She is survived by her children, Kerry, Clara, Michael, Darlene, Sharon, Ronnie and Brian, all residing in Paqtnkek, Joanne and Joan, Yorkton, Sask., Doreen, Truro, N.S., Patsy, Eskasoni, N.S., Freda, Halifax, N.S., P.J. and Norma, Maitland, N.S. Anne is also survived by 47 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
A public viewing will be held at C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College St., Antigonish on June 12 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A second public viewing will take place at Anne’s residence, 3 Mulin Rd. in Paqtnkek on Thursday, June 13 starting at 12 p.m. Funeral mass will be held on Friday, June 14 at the Immaculate Conception Church, Heatherton, at 11 a.m. Following church service (cremation at a later date) and a Celebration Feast and “salitey” will take place in Anne’s honour at the Paqtnkek First Nation Gym. All are invited.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Anne’s memory can be made to the Paktnkek First Nations Church Fund with the Scotia Bank in Antigonish.
