Peacefully at his home on Tuesday, June 11, 2013, of Wendell “Wendy” Charman Bonnell Murchison Matthews, beloved husband of Betty (nee Ashley) Matthews of Alberton, age 76. Born at Union on April 8, 1937, he was the son of the late Russell and Amy Lou (nee Ramsay) Matthews. Loving father and grandfather to: Paula (Barry) Caulier, Matthew, Ashley, Amy Lou and Monika, Sylvia (Michael) Corcoran, Kerby (Kristen), Kerri-Anne (Steven) Ellsworth, and Spencer, Wendy-Lou (Andrew) Kerr, Katie and Ryan. Great-grandfather to Tabor and Holden. He is also survived by a brother Clair (Eleanor), a sister Maywood (Fred) Dorman, and by sisters and brothers-in-law, Guelda Matthews, Esther (Floyd) Hardy, Vaunda (Fred) Richards, Herbie (June) Pridham. He is also survived by his many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by siblings: Lowell (late Olive), Glen (late Thirza), Kenneth (late Margaret), Haldine, Noelle (late Mitchell) Gallant, Fred, Florence, and Glennie, Florence and Gwendolyn in infancy. Also predeceased by sisters-in-law Anita Matthews, Marion Pridham, Irene (late Douglas) Rix. Resting at the Rooney Funeral Home, Alberton, from where the funeral will be held Friday morning at 10:30 a.m., Pastor Sheila McCrea-MacCallum officiating. Interment to take place in the Elmsdale Church of the Nazarene Cemetery. Visiting hours Thursday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. As an expression of sympathy memorial donations to Home Care and Support would be gratefully appreciated.
