The death occurred peacefully at the Prince County Hospital, Summerside, on Monday, June 10, 2013, of Gerald “Jerry” Arthur Mercer of Kensington, and formerly of New London, aged 87 years. Jerry was born on March 20, 1926, in Hartford, Connecticut, U.S.A., to his late parents Frank and Grace (nee Davis) Mercer. Loving father of Neil of New York, Stuart (Karen) of Virginia, Sharon Bassette of Florida, Arthur (Mary Lou) of Florida, William of Maine, Russell (Marilyn) of Colorado and Rachel Mercer (fiancé John Vastag) of Florida and Park Corner. Also lovingly remembered by 13 grandchildren. Survived by his sister Judith Rockwell of Cape Cod, special grandfather to Maxx Mercer- Montgomery, uncle to Todd Kittridge of Cape Cod and Wendy (Van) Northcross of Cape Cod. Besides his parents, Jerry was predeceased by his brother-in-law Jim Rockwell. Jerry was a third generation, lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge. Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Rd., Summerside. By Mr. Mercer’s request there will be no visiting hours or funeral service held. Interment to take place in Geddy Memorial Cemetery, Springbrook, at a later date. Memorial donations in Jerry’s memory to the P.E.I. Humane Society would be greatly appreciated.
