1940 - 2013
Margaret Alice Shannon, 72, of Saint John, NB, passed away on June 15, 2013 in the Saint John Regional Hospital after a lengthy illness.
She was the eldest daughter of Cecil and Gladys (Dernier) Shannon of Dorchester, NB. She is survived by her sisters, Ruth Shannon of Saint John, NB and Sue (Allan) Stuart of Hammonds Plains, NS, as well as niece, Shannon (Brad) Fitzsimmons of Windsor, NS, nephews, A. Breck (Amanda) Stuart of Hubbards, NS and Sean Stuart of Milton, Ontario. She was also the proud Great Aunt of Declan and Brogan Fitzsimmons of Windsor NS.
Margaret was a Graduate of Dorchester Consolidated High School in 1958. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree (Math and Physics) 1963 and a Bachelor of Education Degree from Mount Allison University. She was employed by Irving Oil Limited as a Systems Programmer, a position she thoroughly enjoyed for 34 years. She was a member of the Portland United Church and the Portland United UCW. She was also a member of the Federation of University Women (CFUW). Marg loved to travel and enjoyed numerous cruises and tours with her Travel Group.
She happily resided the last five years at the Chateau de Champlain, a Senior Living complex in Saint John where she found many new friends and a very caring staff.
Many thanks to Dr Pelletier and Dr Hassan, NB Heart Centre, as well as the staff of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit, and the Anticoagulation Clinic of the Saint John Regional Hospital. Their consistent, professional and caring role was very much appreciated by Margaret and her family!
The Funeral Service was held from Fundy Funeral Home Chapel, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (506-646-2424) on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at 2 p.m., with visitations one hour prior to the funeral. A private family interment took place in Dorchester Rural Cemetery.
