It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the passing of Angus 'Buster' Bates on July 2, 2013 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Born in New Waterford on August 26, 1925 he was the son of the late
Martin and Mary (McInnis) Bates.
He was employed by the Cape Breton Development Corporation as a Mine
Examiner in #12 and Lingan mine. He was a member of the 3rd Degree K.O.C. for 60 years. His favorite pasttime was spent fishing and spending time with his family and grandchildren. He will always be remembered for his kind, gentle manner and being a true gentleman which was a great role model to his family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Teresa (Gillis) Bates; daughter Donna (Wilbur) Wright and sons Martin (Rosemary), Terry (Charlene), Gary (Michelle) and Barry
(Wanda); grandchildren Susan, Jaclyn, Greg, Danielle, Mark, Tara, Lisa (Donnie MacKay), Kaitlyn, Corey, Cody, Jaret, Faith and Rohan, Also survived by his brother Lawrence 'Lonnie' Bates and sister Martina Andrea.
Besides his parents he was also predeceased by sisters Leona Ciancio, Carmel Hubbard, Loretta and Kate.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 5th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and a
funeral mass to celebrate his life will be Saturday, July 6th at 10 am in the Parish of Saint Leonard, Mt. Carmel Ave. with Father Ray Huntley officiating. Internment in Mt.Carmel Cemetery followed by a luncheon in the parish hall, Convent St. and all are welcome.
